STRENGTHS

  • Structural pulley. It is integral with the swivel. It is not a simple pulley connected to the swivel.
  • Efficient even under high loads
  • The pulley is fitted with a bearing and therefore offers much less friction than a 2:1 or 3:1 friction sheave
  • Allows the use of a smaller diameter halyard (Often obligatory beyond KF8)
  • Allows to divide the efforts by 2 and therefore to use a smaller ascender
  • Karver produce custom haul pulleys according to your specifications
  • A haul pulley also allows to have 2 times more power to tension the halyard. An important point for the sails up close.

KARVER TIPS

  • Be careful, our optional 2:1 blocks are equipped with pins and not with a fast pins
  • The use of an optional 2:1 block implies having an attachment point in the mast and accepting the principle of having twice as many rope length during operations (and when stowing the deck or cockpit …)
  • The efficient alternative to an optional 2:1 block is the use of a hook (no wear or lengthening of the halyard), no need blocker, rapid hoisting because the halyard is not hauled up. The tension is then taken up from below.
  • The major drawback of an optional 2:1 block is not the block itself but the quantity of rope which is doubled. The hoisting is twice as long. At the end of the operation, double the length of the line must be stored.
  • It is possible to use a friction sheave on the swivel but as its name suggests, it is an accessory that brings friction. For long lengths, we strongly recommend Karver block. Operate faster and with less effort.
